Evolution Denied (or the morning after Trump)

Hate-filled morning –

the millionth time this complaint has been registered –

bleary-eyed and disillusioned the streets are robed in black

the world slips back

several levels of consciousness.

Teary-eyed and nauseous

high school hallways are littered with the dreams of the marginalized,

junior high cafeterias crowded with chants of tiny little minds –

who can blame them? — one of their own has triumphed.

Impoverished believers

know not what they do –

the world is flat

black and white

and neatly delineated

or perhaps they know exactly what they do

operating with the intellectual maturity

of the spiteful little boy in all of us

the emotional compass

of the wounded brat
